Abstract
The nation faces a major challenge for caring of the elderly (over 60 years age) whose number has risen to 77 million today. This figure is projected to nearly double by 2020 and expected to put an increasing demand on the health care services. Out of the total, 75 per cent of the elderly are living in rural areas. With the increasing longevity of the population, the problem of undernutrition had received better attention in recent years to improve the quality of life and productivity.
